The
Special Needs Programme was established to educate children
who are hearing and speech impaired and those with learning
disabilities. Children learn in an inclusive environment
in which independence and self-reliance and mutual respect
are valued with a curriculum designed to be challenging
and developmentally appropriate for each learner.
Since
1992 PDS has offered a mainstreaming program for children
with special needs. It has envisioned a school for children
that would be committed to a diverse group of children from
infancy to adolescence. The diversity includes provision
of special needs program for children who are special or
differentially-abled. The goal was to provide maximum integration
of the special needs program with all of PDS school's educational
programs.
Through
the years the school has seen increasing number of children
with special needs in its mainstream. At the moment, PDS
School is able to work with a number of children of varying
develpomental delays such as: Autism, Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder, Hearing Impairment, Down's Syndrome,
Cerebral Palsy, Speech Delay and Mental Retardation.
